PHOTOS: Chris Brown On Charity Work; Gives Shoes to Needy Kids

 Chris Brown grew up in Tappahannock, Va. and said he only had one pair of shoes to last him the whole year. Now, he's teamed up with the Unity Campaign and Reebok to help needy kids in the same position.

"I used to have to borrow my cousin's clothes," he told People at the event in L.A. "So being able to come from that poverty-stricken environment and then being able to get out of it is what I tried to [do]. ... I just want to show the kids and have them have a better light of opportunities for them to do what they need to do."

He also tweeted after the event: "Thank you for allowing me to continue to inspire change in the world. Today was a great step forward!" And judging by his bright smile while hanging out with the kids, he might just mean it.

As a 9-year-old, Ebony Oshunrinde used to watch YouTube videos in her Mississauga bedroom of her favourite hip hop artists – Timbaland and Jay-Z – working in their studios.

This week, one of those heroes – Jay-Z – became a collaborator, after a beat produced by the now-16-year-old Ebony was included in the rapper’s new record. “I listened to it last night in the studio, and I honestly felt like crying,” Ebony said in an interview. “It was a big moment in my life.”

Boko Haram Storms Boarding School In Yobe, Kills 30 Students

Showing contempt for the state of emergency in effect in Yobe State, suspected Boko Haram militants today stormed a boarding school and killed 30 students.

A credible military source in Nigeria who confirmed the attack to to SaharaReporters said the incident occurred at the Government Secondary School in the town of Mamudo at about 2am.  The militants seem to have regrouped in a commando style to carry out the butchery, some of the victims reportedly burned alive despite soldiers all over the place enforcing the military emergency.

In addition to the dead, many others incurred serious injuries and were rushed to hospitals in Damaturu, the state capital.

One teacher, our source said, is among those killed.  Troops have now been deployed to the area, but the incident calls to question the strategy being employed by the military in their implementation of the state of emergency, and how much success they have actually achieved so far.

4 Nigerian men gunned down in South Africa

Johannesburg - Four Nigerians died when a group of men opened fire on them in Benoni, on the East Rand, police said on Friday. Five men were in a Volkswagen Golf on Thursday evening when a car stopped in front of them, police spokesperson Tim Masilela said.

A group of men got out of the car and opened fire, killing two men in the Golf. A wounded passenger tried to run away, but collapsed and died a few metres from the scene. A fourth man died later in hospital.
The fifth man in the car was not hurt."The motive behind the shooting is unknown. Police are still investigating," Masilela said.

Police to phase out black uniform -FG approves N1.7 billion for purchase of new ones

Indication emerged yesterday that the Federal Government has given approval for the phasing out of the police black uniform.
The uniform had been in existence for over 30 years, until recently a new blue and camouflage uniform was introduced as service dresses for the force.
Informed police source, disclosed to the Nigerian Tribune, that the Presidency has already approved the sum of N1.7 billion for the bulk purchase of the uniform for Officers and rank and file.

It was gathered that one of the reason for the phasing out of the uniform is that it portrays hatredness and wickedness for the police as anything black is said to portend evil.
So many reasons adduced for the phasing out of the black uniform include not being environmentally friendly.

World Bank Approves $300m To Boost Farming In Nigeria

The World Bank, yesterday, said it has approved credit facilities of $300 million for Nigeria to boost farming output and food security.

A $200 million loan will go to small-holder farmers organised in clusters in six of the country’s 36 states for producers of rice, cassava, sorghum and other staples, the World Bank said.

Another $100 million will be used to improve crop yields, promote market access and better management.

UNILAG Students Involved In Ghastly Car Accident Along Airport Road, Lagos
