Robbery scare in Ife as banks close shop


                                       
OSOGBO—Residents of Ile-Ife in Osun State were yesterday gripped with fear over rumour of an impending attack on banks and other commercial institutions in the town by armed robbers.
Some commercial banks which had earlier opened for operations hurriedly shut down activities after the rumour filtered to them.
Many customers who had earlier arrived the banks for business transactions were disappointed when it became obvious that the banks were not  prepared for business.

Students of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife who are currently sitting for their second semester examination were also affected by the development as all commercial banks on campus were closed down.
The State police command however quickly mounted road blocks at strategic locations within and outside the town while the state commissioner of police led a patrol team to monitor possible targets by the hoodlums.
Speaking, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Solomon Olusegun, assured the people that the command was on top of the situation, adding that “the State police command is combat ready to check the activities of the men of the underworld.”
He however called on residents to regard the security of lives and properties as business of everybody, adding that they should make sure the report suspects to the command for appropriate action.
