The university town of Nsukka, Enugu State witnessed two tragic incidents over the weekend as a man hanged himself on a tree and rival cult group murdered a graduate. The graduate named, Anene Eze met his untimely death at a sachet water production outfit along new Anglican Road, Nsukka urban, while the lifeless body of a man was found hanging behind Baptist Church, Nsukka, off Enugu Road.
Eyewitness account told Daily Sun that the victim, Anene Eze, a graduate of Unizik Awka was killed instantly by his assailants, who had chased him to the sachet water production company, where he took refuge in spite of passionate plea for mercy. He was said to have been chased from a drinking house along Anglican Road, Nsukka Urban by armed group of boys numbering about 30, suspected to be cultists.
Daily Sun gathered that Eze was already drinking at the joint, when suddenly a group of boys sauntered in an intimidating manner.
According to an eyewitness account, trouble started when the assailants started breaking bottles at the drinking palour, which caused pandemonium. The victim was allegedly said to have questioned the boys but only succeeded in stirring the hornets nest as he was quickly attacked by his assailants.
Noticing that his attackers were ruthless, Eze was said to have taken to his heels but was caught at the sachet water production company, where he was killed in a most brutal and gruesome manner.
Daily Sun gathered that the young graduate’s attackers, after empting volley of bullets into him to no avail, attacked him with bottles and all manner of dangerous weapons. He was said to have given up the ghost only when his killers used a heavy object to smash his head.
Daily Sun further gathered that the death of Eze might not be unconnected with the beheading of a student of the University of Nigeria about two years ago by a cult group, which Eze was said to belong.
“I seriously suspect that this is a revenge mission in connection with the killing of an Nsukka boy about two years ago by a cult group, who beheaded him and dumped his head in the campus of the University of Nigeria,” a resident, who pleaded anonymity said. Eze’s body has been deposited at the morgue of the famous Catholic owned Bishop Shanahan Hospital.
In another development, the body of an unidentified man found hanging behind Nsukka Baptist Church has been recovered by the Police and buried at the same spot.
The Divisional Police Officer, Nsukka Urban was said to be on leave when Daily Sun went to the police station to seek his comment, but the Divisional Crime Officer DCO, Moses Abraham, confirmed the two incidents when contacted. “We were the people who recovered the body of the man and deposited it in the mortuary,” the Police officer said.
