Bomb scare in Abuja

There was panic at the Bayelsa State liaison office in Abuja over a text message warning people to evacuate the area before a bomb allegedly planted within the vicinity would be detonated and like a wild fire, what started like a rumour spread across the city attracting the presence of security operatives and fire fighting vehicles to the area

Vendors and other hawkers around the building scampered for safety while some others tucked themselves in places considered safe. When Daily Sun visited the area, scores of people were seen at the entrance gate discussing the issue while others were moving freely inside the building.

Among them were security personnel from the State Security Service (SSS), Navy and Police, who came in two operation vehicles , including a fire fighting vehicle belonging to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
A staff with the liaison office, Lesily Abadi told Daily Sun that a colleague received an SMS on his phone warning that a bomb would soon be detonated in the building.

It was on the basis of this that people panicked and left the area for dear lives.
Speaking with Daily Sun, the General Manager, Nnadi Cyricus dispelled the rumours and urged people to go about their normal activities as it was a false alarm.
Two explosives were recorded near the area during the 50th Independence anniversary on October 1, 2010.
The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) had claimed responsiblity for the blasts in which 10 deaths were recorded.
