Police kill 1, arrest 8 robbery suspects in Ebonyi



ABAKALIKI-EBONYI State Police Command, Wednesday, killed one suspected armed robber, while eight others were arrested during a shootout with the bandits at Oriuzor, Ezza North local government area of the state.
According to police report, on October 31, 2011, men of the Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, of Ebonyi State Police Command, which was led by one Chief Superintendent of Police, CSP, John Mark, dislodged the gang of robbers while they were sharing their loot in a hideout.

It was gathered that on sighting the police, the robbers opened fire but reprisal attack of the police led to the death of one of the robbers who was later identified as Friday Nwokwu, aged 25.
Briefing newsmen at state police headquarters, Abakaliki, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP John Eluu, gave the names of those arrested to include, Ekene Eguji, Sunday Ugo, Nwokporo Ifeanyi, Elechi Chinemerem, Opoke Maduka, Chima Obinna, Ifeanyi Eguyi and Ifeanyi Egbe.
Some of the items recovered from the suspects included three locally made pistols with ten live cartridges, two expended cartridges, one tiger generator and cutlasses.
He said: “On October 28, the command also recovered a Toyota Hiace Bus stolen from Chiboy Motors, Abakaliki, by some suspected armed robbers in August. One of the kingpins in that operation is currently in custody helping in the investigation.”
