Lady Gaga turned down a million dollar offer to perform at the Republican National Convention

Lady Gaga turned down a million dollar offer to perform at the Republican National Convention last year, the Washington Examiner reports.

Documents filed in a lawsuit between the American Action Network, a Republican fundraising organization, and production company Cater America LLC reveal that Gaga was offered a million dollar payday for a performance just outside the doors of the GOP convention. AAN director Pete Meachum also instructed Cater America's Rob Jennings to tell Gaga that "$150,000 will go towards a domestic violence shelter."

It wasn't enough for Gaga to sign on, however — no big surprise when one considers that she was one of the most vocal activists for the repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell just a few years back. Other artists turned down the gig too, including Dolly Parton and rapper Pitbull, although they weren't offered millions of dollars.

The AAN is suing Cater America LLC to recover $350,000 the organization says it lost when a Lynyrd Skynyrd concert arranted by Cater America was canceled in the face of Hurricane Isaac. Cater America has announced plans to countersue, alleging that AAN refused to pay $500,000 for a performance by Journey, among other expenses.
