Ogun distributes food items to flood victims

Governor of Ogun, Ibikunle Amoson
The items are to mitigate effects of the flood, the commissioner stated.
The Ogun State Government has begun the distribution of food items received from the Federal Government to flood victims across 20 Local Governments of the State.

The Commissioner for Agriculture, Ronke Sokefun, who stated this in Abeokuta while speaking on the activities of her ministry, disclosed that the State had late last year taken delivery of 660 metric tons of maize, 60 metric tons of garri and 180 metric tons of sorghum as its portion of relieve food items released by the Federal Government to States across the Federation.

She added that the items were released to mitigate effects of the flood experienced across the country last year and help combat the effects of malnutrition that may arise, especially in women and children.
The commissioner explained that the distribution of the items was based on the projected 2012 population census of women in the State, adding that the items could be accessed through “women in agriculture”.

The State Government had last week distributed relief materials to victims of last year’s flood disaster in Ado-Odo/Ota, Ijebu Ode and Yewa South Local Government Areas of the State.
The items include 300 bags of rice, 700 pieces of mattresses, seven thousand pieces of insecticide treated nets and one thousand pieces of blankets.
