5 Lagos policemen arrested for murder of okada rider



LAGOS – Five policemen attached to Isashi Divisional Headquarters, Lagos, have been arrested for allegedly pushing a motorcycle operator out of their fast-moving patrol van around Iba new site area of the state.
    
The man, simply identified as Effiong, allegedly died in the process. An eye-witness narrated that the policemen had impounded Effiong's bike for undisclosed reason.

As he was being taken away to an unknown destination he protested and jumped into the police van, insisting to know where his bike was being taken to.

When contacted Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer,PPRO, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Ngozi Braide, said the arrested policemen had been transferred to SCID for further investigation.

She said that only an autopsy report could determine whether Effiong was pushed from a moving patrol van or not.

According to reliable sources, when the news of Efiong's death broke, other motor-bike operators in the area quickly mobilised and chased the police patrol van which later ran into a gridlock where the policemen were overpowered.

The mob was said to have surged towards the Isashi Division protesting police extortion and high- handedness.
