The United Nations as of today has estimated the world population to be 7billion. The U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said: “Seven billion population is a challenge,” he said, and “at the same time, an opportunity, depending upon how the international community prepares for that challenge.”
Demographic Data analysis on population states that it took until 1804 for the world to reach its first billion people and a century more until it hit 2 billion in 1927. Soon the numbers began to cascade: 3 billion in 1959, 4 billion in 1974, 5 billion in 1987, 6 billion in 1998, 7billion in 2011.
In the U.N estimate of world population, the world is most likely to hit 8billion in 2025. Can the world economy handle this drastic increase in population?
