Soldier shoots pastor in Jos

Barely a week after a soldier was killed in Jos, a pastor who was allegedly impersonating as a soldier has been shot by a member of the Special Task Force on Jos crisis.
A statement by the force’s spokesman, Capt. Charles Ekeocha said, unlawful shooting of a clergyman Alfred Adamu   took place at the premises of the University of Jos,

Captain Okeocha stated that ‘the victim who claimed to be a Soldier Staff Sergeant wanted him (another soldier) to retrieve his phone from his friend when the soldier discovered that the victim is a fake soldier. In the ensuing argument and attempt to arrest the victim, he escaped into the school and the soldier pursued him where the firing occurred.”  The victim, he said, has been admitted at the Jos University Teaching Hospital JUTH, and is responding to treatment.


Captain Ekeocha stated that the command regretted the action by the soldier in the incident and wished to use this medium to plead for understanding.”  He noted that the case of the clergyman was coming less than a week when a soldier was allegedly killed by unknown persons within the same council area (Jos North). He revealed that the soldier who shot the pastor, Private Nelson Eric has been withdrawn from his previous place of assignment as a form of discipline.

Meanwhile, the member representing Riyom Constituency at the plateau state House of Assembly, Daniel Dem has debunked a news paper report early this week that the two corpses of the recently raided Alikazaure area by soldiers in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State was dumped in Riyom.

The Lawmaker made this known while speaking with Daily Sun at the Assembly complex yesterday, according to the legislator, the story was capable of igniting another round of violence in the area, considering the prevailing insecurities being faced by the state in recent time.
