Alleged twins kidnapper remanded in prison

An Ebute-Metta Magistrate Court has remanded a 35-year-old man, Victor Joshua, in prison custody, following an alleged kidnapping of two identical female twins of two years old, belonging to Mr. and Mrs. Badmus Taoheed.

The accused was arraigned on a two-count charge of conspiracy to commit felony to wit: kidnapping and unlawful attempt to kidnap, but pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.

According to the prosecuting officer, an Assistant Superintendent of Police- Mr. Innocent Effiong, the offences are punishable under Sections 227 and 365 of the Criminal Code Cap. C 17 Vol. 2, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.



Presiding magistrate, Mrs. C. T. Adesola-Ikpatt, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000, with two credible and reliable sureties who are to show to the court their tax clearance certificates for the last two years, indicating their means of livelihood and must be resident within the magisterial district.

Saturday Vanguard gathered that before his arrest, the accused acted like a newspaper vendor in Ikorodu. And while moving about like a vendor on the morning of September 12, 2011, the accused picked the twins in front of their house at Okeriya, Ikorodu area of Lagos State.

It was said that luck ran out of the accused when neighbours, on seeing him carry one of the twins on his shoulder and held the other by the hand, confronted him and he told them that he was a friend of the twins father and was taking them to him.

Mrs. Adesola-Ikpatt adjourned the case for mention till November 9, 2011 while the accused who failed in meeting the bail condition before the court adjourned sitting was then issued a remand warrant by the magistrate.
