2 community leaders killed in Edo

A popular Jehovah’s Witness faithful in Oza-Nisi congregation, Orhionmwon Local Government Council of Edo State has reportedly killed two village elders, shortly after he was said to have delivered a message to the gathering.

The double tragedy, it was gathered, has thrown the community into mourning, following the bizarre manner the victims, an old man and woman were murdered.
The suspect who gave his name as Oghenovo from Ovu village of Delta State, was brought in handcuffs from the Abudu Police Division to the State Police Command headquarters, Benin City, yesterday.

Sources said the suspect was overpowered by some neighbours while allegedly butchering an old woman inside her kitchen. The 75-year-old victim, Mrs. Lucy Omofumwan, was said to be sweeping her kitchen that fateful morning when the suspect allegedly attacked her shortly after he had also killed a blind elderly man identified as Pa Sunday Idemudia, 73, in the same neighbourhood.

The children of the deceased, Mrs. Ogbekile S. O. and Godfrey Idemudia, said the suspect, armed with a sharp matchete, had stormed the compound chasing away the late Pa Idemudia’s grand-child who was waiting by the bathroom to take his blind grandfather into the house after his bath.

They said before the little child could return, the suspect had carried out his evil mission. The suspect was not coherent yesterday while responding to questions put to him at the state police command, just as the command’s Spokesman, ASP Ejiroro Ahwara declined comment.
