OWERRI-Akatta community, Oru East Local Government Area of Imo State, was last Sunday thrown into confusion and mourning, following the gruesome assassination of two brothers in the full glare of their aged parents.
The deceased persons, identified as Ebere Ezebue (35) and Ikenna Ezebue (33), travelled home for a burial ceremony from their base in Auchi, Edo State.
Confirming the gory incident to newsmen in his home, the aggrieved father of the deceased Mr. Lambert Nwuke, said the hoodlums struck at about 7pm and not more than two minutes after his sons arrived home on the fateful day.
According to Mr. Nwuke, the gun-totting assassins shot his two sons from different directions.
He pointed out that after ensuring that they had been silenced, they collected their telephone handsets and disappeared into the dark night.
Nwuke said his late sons were sitting beside him when the hoodlums struck, adding that there was the likelihood that the gangsters probably laid ambush for his returning sons.
Speaking with difficulty and intermittent sobs and supplication to God, Mrs. Livina Nwuke described the incident as her “worst experience in life”.
Wondering what could have led the assassins to abruptly terminate the lives of her two sons, Mrs. Nwuke was particularly grieved that their young wives had been reduced to widows and their children left without fathers.
