INEC Postpones Permanent Voter Cards distribution in 9 LGAs in Lagos

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday said that the Permanent Voter Card (PVC) distribution would begin in only 11 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Lagos State on Friday.

Adekunle Ogunmola, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of INEC in Lagos State, made the disclosure at a meeting with political parties in the state.

He said that the exercise in the nine other LGAs would hold from Nov. 28 to Nov. 30.

According to Ogunmola, the exercise will hold in Agege, Ajeromi-Ifelodun, Ibeju-Lekki, Ifako- Ijaiye, Ikeja, Ikorodu, Kosofe, Lagos Island, Lagos Mainland, Mushin and Ojo from Friday Nov. 7 as planned to Nov.9.

He said that it would, however, hold in Alimosho, Amuwo Odofin, Apapa,  Badagry, Epe, Oshodi- Isolo, Somolu,  Surulere and Eti-Osa from Nov. 28 to Nov. 30.

Addressing a meeting of INEC and Political Parties in Lagos State, Ogunmola said, “We had to cancel the distribution in those areas because we are yet to take delivery of their PVCs.

Court says Tambuwal remains Speaker until December 3

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Monday ruled that the status quo in the House of Representatives should be maintained.

The Court said Speaker, Hon. Aminu Tambuwal, will remain Speaker until the House reconvenes on December 3.

The court also ruled that the Speaker could not be removed and that the House should not reconvene before the said date. Hearing on the substantive case resumes on Friday.

Revolutionary new anti-HIV pill shown to work when taken 'on demand' A pill which can reduce the risk of HIV infection by up to 90 per cent is most effective when used at the same time as sex, French researchers have said. 

Now, in what researchers called a “major breakthrough in the fight against HIV” a separate French trial of PrEP has found that it also led to “a very significant reduction” in the risk of infection amongst men who took it while they had sex.

Chinese Government Unveils Super-Tech Laser Weapon Enabled To Shoot Down Drones

These Chinese government in its effort to ensure safety and protection for its citizens and officials has developed and showcased a high tech laser weapon system that is capable of shooting down light drones flying at low altitude.

State media reports that the machine has a two-kilometre range and can bring down “various small aircraft” within five seconds of locating its target, the official Xinhua news agency said, citing a statement by the China Academy of Engineering Physics (CAEP), one of the developers.
