HIV prevalence high among homosexuals - Survey

The findings of the 2010 Integrated Biological and Behavioural Survey among the high risk groups in Nigeria, show increase of HIV prevalence among men who have sex with men (MSM). The Minister of Health, Prof Onyebuchi Chukwu, said this at a meeting to disseminate findings of the 2010 Integrated Biological and Behavioural Surveillance (IBBSS) in Abuja. Chukwu, who was represented on the occasion by Dr Tolu Fakeye, Director, Health Planning Research and Statistics in the ministry, said the HIV prevalence among MSM had increased from 13.5 per cent in 2007 to 17.2 per cent in 2010. He explained that more than 50 per cent MSM surveyed reported that some of the men also had sex with female partners.

Steve Jobs, Diana ross To Be Honoured at 2012 Grammy Awards

    Grammy just announced its Special Merit Awards recipients and this year's selections are Allman Brothers Band ,Glen Campbell,Antonio Carlos Jobim,George Jones ,the Memphis Horns ,Diana Ross ,Gil Scott-Heron. 

     They will receive Lifetime Achievement Awards while Steve  Jobs, who died in October, is among those receiving  the Trustees Awards that recognise "outstanding contributions to the industry in a non-performing capacity".

   The iPod creator is honoured for his part in devising "products and technology that transformed the way we consume music, TV, movies, and books.

    The special invitation-only ceremony will be held during Grammy  Week on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, and a formal acknowledgment will be made during the 54th Annual Grammy Awards telecast, which will be held at staples center in Los Angeles on Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012.

The most anticipated cyouth event of the year aptly tagged The Dynamix All Youth Awards held on Sunday, December 18, 2011 at the Muson Center, Lagos.

Big Brother Amplified winner Karen Igho hosted the event alongside comedians Seyi Law andBash. It was a beautiful night as  over 5,000 Nigerian Youths met to celebrate and recognize their peers who had made extraordinary efforts to make positive differences in the Youth Society (home and abroad).

Arik Air Hostess, Chiwendu Ogbonnaya, Arrested in the UK For Drug Trafficking

A 30 year old Nigerian air hostess with Arik Air, Chinwendu Uwakaonyenma Ogbonnaya, was on Sunday December 18th arrested at Heathrow Airport for attempting to smuggle four kilogram of cocaine into the UK.

Chiwendu was on an Arik Air flight from Lagos to the UK when the drug was discovered in one of her bags. She's been charged to court. They are not releasing pics of her at the moment...

Doctors in Brazil are unsure whether they can safely operate on a baby born with two heads.

The rare condition occurs when one of two conjoined twins fails to fully develop in the womb.

The “twins”, named Jesus and Emanuel, have two brains, two backbones and a single heart.

The 4.5 kg baby was born by caesarean at daybreak on Monday in a small hospital in the northern state of Para and was rushed by plane to a better equipped hospital in the state capital Belem.

Doctor Neila Dahas, who is treating the newborn, said separating the heads would be impossible because he only has one set of organs.

“What we know statistically is that the children who undergo surgery and survive are the children who have less organs in common,” she said.

She added that it is still difficult to choose which head to remove because both brains are functioning well.
