FG and Boko Haram hold secret meeting in Senegal

The Federal Government and fundamentalist Islamic sect, Boko Haram, held a secret meeting in Senegal a few weeks ago in a bid to end the terrorism onslaught against the country, SUNDAY PUNCH authoritatively reports.

The governments of Mali and Senegal played significant roles in the peace talks with officials of the two West African countries serving as mediators during the negotiations, our correspondent learnt.

Nigerian national basketball player shot dead after 'trying to rob a home in Texas

A former Nigerian national basketball player was shot dead in a botched burglary in Texas before Thanksgiving, it has been revealed. Chinedu Onyeuku, 29, was trying to break into a home in Plano on November 21 and was shot and killed by the home owner, police say.

Onyeuku had played for the Nigerian team that qualified for this summer’s Olympic Games in London.

The Seme Border Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has arrested a 28-year old Ghanaian auto dealer for allegedly concealing wraps of powdery substances that tested positive for cocaine in his inner wear, the agency said on Thursday.

The suspect, Ali Aminu, was arrested with a Ghanaian international passport number H2252580, said Mitchell Ofoyeju, NDLEA Head of Public Affairs.

900 Corpers Opt Out Of Kano and Niger because of Boko Haram

Following the directive from the National headquarters of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, to redeploy any any corps member seeking transfer, 900 corps members have so far been redeployed  from Kano and Niger states.

The coordinator of the scheme in Kano State, Alhaji Bashir Yakasai, revealed that 800 corps members were redeployed out of the 2, 129 posted to the state while Mrs Justina Andriya, Niger State Coordinator of the scheme confirmed that 100 married female corps members sought redeployment from the state to their husbands’ states of residence.

Accidents Claim 124 Lives In Lagos

Accidents have claimed 124 lives on roads in Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria in the last 10 months, according to records obtained from the Lagos State Government.

The records obtained from the state government’s agency, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA on Wednesday revealed that 619 accidents involving 1,204 vehicles with 124 people killed occurred on Lagos roads between January and October, 2012.
