AS one Nigeria’s finest showbiz personalities, what does style mean to you?Style to me is your expression; using materials and accessories. It’s the way you carry yourself. It defines your mood. For me, it is about dressing with mood and season.

How would you define your style?

My style is Ice Prince. I don’t want to say I’m flamboyant or conservative, no matter how flamboyant I think I am, you will find people who are extremely flamboyant. Anyway, I spend a lot of money on my clothes and other stuffs.

What lifestyle material do you have weakness for?

I think I like and have a bit of everything. I live with Jesse Jagz and I’m comfortable with that. I have suits, urban gears in my wardrobe. I’m comfortable with what I have.

What kind of clothes are you comfortable with?

You’ll find me in urban gears; I hardly wear corporate or traditional. In fact, I don’t wear traditional at all but I’m mostly wearing snickers and urban kind of wears.

You wear caps a lot, how many do you own?

I really don’t have a reason for wearing caps; apart from the fact that I do think I have a big head. I wear hats to cover my head. In the last six months, I have bought close to 200 hats. But I keep giving them out. I don’t know how much I have at the moment. I’m comfortable with Snapback hats.

For your urban wears and accessories, do you have preference for a particular label?

For clothes; I love Live Mechanics for snickers, I love Nike, for wristwatches, I love G-Shock, for cologne, I love 212.

What about sunglasses?

I can do with any kind, I like the Supra sunglasses, they are really cool.

Where do you prefer to shop?

I shop for my stuffs in America, my stylist Snicker Boy, brings most of them from the States. I also shop whenever I go to London. Even in Nigeria, I visit Live Mechanics store, in Adeniran Ogunsanya Shopping Mall, in surulere. I shop anywhere; I could pick stuffs from Jos. I was in Ghana recently and I picked up some African bracelets.

What’s your favourite food and drink?
I really don’t have a favourite food but I tell people its rice, probably that’s what I’m mostly comfortable with. Water is what I drink, because I don’t want to advertise any kind of drink here, but I honestly love water.

Your favourite hangout?

My bedroom; I’m not a big fan of clubs, bars or lounges. I love my bedroom to a fault that sometimes, when I have shows in Lagos and the organisers put us in a hotel, I don’t stay there, after the show, I’ll still come back to my room. Most of the time, they end up fighting me for getting the hotel room in vain.

Where is your preffered holiday spot?

I love United Kingdom, because Jamaicans reside there. It’s fun to be with those people. America is also cool but the UK Is where I love to stay.

What car do you drive, do you have a dream car?

I drive a Camry. I don’t have a dream car because cars keep coming out every year. But I love SUV’s.

What about other deluxe things of life like boats, jets, beach mansions?

(His face lights up with smile)Yeah, I want to make all the monies in the world, if possible. I do wish I could own big boats so I can have all the Skeles (girls) in the world and party on. I wish I could own a big jet, so I can get to my destination easy and fast.

In your short time in the industry, you have made a big mark, what should your fans be expecting from your debut album?

My fans should expect a lot of good music. The album is a collection of different ideas, different sounds that had been running through my mind, it’s also going to be a collection of different genre of music. There is reggae, highlife, hip hop and lots of collaborations with industry giants. Jezze Jagz produced the album, that’s what my fans should expect.

How did you come about the title, ‘Everybody Loves Ice Prince’ and what is the structure of the album?

At first, I wanted to name the album after the street I used to live in Jos but when I lost my mother, ‘the mad love’ I got from everybody around the world made me change it to ‘Everybody Loves Ice Prince’. It’s going to be a 15- track- album. I recorded songs with Tuface, Iyanya, Whizkid, WHP from South Africa. Obviously, M.I, Jesse Jagz and Brymo and a whole lot of bright talents that party people have not really heard about. The album will be dropped on the 4th of October. I thought it would be a perfect gift for MI as his birthday falls on that same day. The concert will hold on October 9, at Eko Hotel the Expo Hall. It’s going to be smoking.

In your journey to stardom, what was the turning point for Ice Prince?

The turning point was when I won the Henessy Artistry in 2009. I think that was when my journey really started .A year later; I released ‘Oleku’ which was produced by Jezze Jagz, featuring Brymo. All these really put me out there.

You seem to have a grass to grace to story, what is your source of motivation?

God is the first drive obviously but my friends are also a big source of inspiration.Their encouragement made me succeed and keep me going.

What has stardom brought to Ice Prince?

Stardom has opened a lot of doors for me. When I talk, people listen. I have been invited to be guest speaker in symposiums for students and young people. Stardom has also taken me around the world; I now know what America, Europe and some other parts of the world look like.

Gov Akpabio Gives 5million Naira To Sam Loco’s Children

The children of late veteran Nollywood actor, Sam Loco Efe, who is yet to be buried, are now five million naira richer courtesy the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Apkabio.

The gesture was made by the Governor at the movie premiere of Nollywood actresses turned producers, Ini Edo and Emem Insong’s I Will Take My Chances. The event took place at the Akwa Ibom States banquet hall on Saturday, September 24.

The event, which saw heavyweights in the make-believe sector of Nigeria like Richard Mofe Damijo (RMD), Ramsey Noah, Genevieve and others in attendance, was also attended by Gov. Akpabio, who was the host.

Gov Akpabio made the donation to the actor’s children in appreciation what the actor did to the
movie industry and how the comic actor affected the people with his talent while he was alive.

This is not the first time the Gov is giving out money to support entertainers. Recently in Lagos,
at the Teslim Balogun stadium, where Nollywood stars played against Music stars in a novelty
match in honour of the late Lady of songs, Christy Essien Igbokwe, the Gov made a similar
gesture.

Sam Loco Efe died some weeks back at his hotel room, where he was shooting a movie. He his slated to be buried later this month.

Star actress,Tonto Dikeh is always an issue in the industry,especially when it comes to her controversial roles in some movies including Dirty Secrets and yet to be released Strippers in Love.In a recent interview,she talks about her role in the movie”Strippers in Love” and other issues .

Excerpts from the interview.

All this while,why haven’t you produced a movie to call your own

I would say I have only done one jointly with another person.I have not shot any personal movie since I started out.

Why

Nothing,maybe because I have been busy with other peoples work all this while.I believe any time I am free,I would have some time to myself.It’s then I can start something on my own movie.But for now,that’s not my priority.

What would you say is the factor responsible for your unstoppable rise in the industry

I can’t really say,I just understand that once you take mystery away from a product or a brand,it makes it empty.I don’t know if it’s the mystery of whom I am or why I am who I am.I really don’t know,I just have to thank God the way everything is.

If you’re paid a fortune,can you go completely nude on set

I don’t think I can do that.Not because of what people may say but because of the fact that I may not be comfortable within myself doing that.And at the same time,it’s uncultured,it’s not part of our tradition.

But it depends on the intensity of what it is.There are some roles that you have to go nude but it doesn’t mean you are having s*x.

You could be nude and dying.So,it depends on how the script goes.But I am very sure I will be very shy doing that.

In most cases,you’re comfortable kissing endlessly in movies,what’s your reaction on thatTo me,that’s very easy.I take things like that for granted.So,far it’s over,it’s over.It doesn’t reflect in my life.Immediately I am through with that kind of role,I leave and start thinking of what next to do.

Does that mean kissing on set doesn’t go the extra mile as some people are made to believe

It doesn’t at all.Everthing is just acting and it’s like a family thing.Although,we don’t really love ourselves 100 percent,we still have a family in Nollywood.We know one another.

So,it’s just like being around who you know 100 percent.Only when I was new in the industry that such little things appeared somehow but when I got matured with time I became used to them.

Let’s go back to your roles in movies,recently you participated in a movie,entitled Strippers in Love which has been keeping movie buff tongues wagging even before its release,what exactly is the role you interpreted in the movie

Strippers in Love is a very different movie.It’s not like Dirty Secrets in its totality.What the story line is all about is something different,it is about a different problem,you can change a particular habit.It’s a beautiful story and I don’t believe people will critize it when they start seeing it.

 If I am going to do a movie,I put all my heart into it since I am a thriller,so that it can attract people to buy the movie.So,you can judge the whole movie from the two-minute scene in its advertisement on TV.I don’t think anybody made me who I am today.I just came out and God took control.Even though,he had to use men to do His work on earth.It doesn’t matter what you say about me,I believe there are thousands of people out there that love me with what I am doing.My private life has nothing to do with my profession.The day I stop being a good actress,then I know that something has gone wrong with my career.Nothing either said or written by a man can bring my career down.It’s the work of God,I am not bragging about it.

You’re a radiant actress,no doubt about that,what is the secret of your beauty

Nothing.One thing is that I don’t really like using make-up a lot unless I am on a set.I just try to keep my skin alive.

Mercy Johnson –‘I Once Rejected Sex For Movie Role’

Sultry Nollywood actress, Mercy Johnson, has said that achieving success in the Nigerian movie industry was not on a bed of roses, as she had been asked to take movie role in exchange for sex.
Mercy, who is arguably the most sought-after Nollywood actress of the moment, in a recent interview explained that it takes only God to be successful in the Nigerian movie industry.

When asked if she has been a victim of sexual harassment, the Kogi State-born damsel: said
“yes! Such had come my way, but if you sleep around for roles, will you also sleep around to make your fans love your work? You only choose what you want. It only takes God to be successful in this industry. It’s a matter of choice if the ladies are approached with such. If you feel that your body is cheap and worth the script, then go ahead, but it is an individual thing. If any lady tells you in Nollywood it hasn’t happened to her, it is a cheap lie. Most people are scared of telling the truth, but the truth makes upcoming ones to watch their steps without making mistakes.”

Mercy was not born with a silver spoon in her mouth, so her growing up was terribly tough and now that the story has turned to success, she wouldn’t mind becoming a child again if she has her way. Hear her:
“When I was in secondary school, I would wash my mates’ clothes and polish their shoes to get paid so that I can also pay my brother’s school fees, and whenever names of people owing school fees were mentioned, mine was always on top of the list.

“I faced a lot of embarrassment in school. My teachers flogged me; my uniform was always torn and tattered. When someone stole, they pointed at me because of my poor condition. It was a miserable life, but today, they’re most shocked at my success. I lived an inferior life throughout my school days… if I have my way; I want to be a child again and live large.”

Olusegun Obasanjo Denies Letter To Jonathan

Oct 5, 2011 – Ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday denied writing President Goodluck Jonathan to remove some chief executives. He described the story, published exclusively by The Nation yesterday, as a figment of the imagination.

Obasanjo spoke at the presidential wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos. He was on his way overseas.

He arrived at the presidential wing in a three-car convoy, accompanied by his friend, Dr Femi Majekodunmi.

The former president flew a private jet with registration number N169SD, which took off at about 10.40 am.

Obasanjo said: “I have not written to the President since his inauguration. I think probably I wrote to him last year on honours and awards for some Nigerians. So, if any newspaper has written that, it’s a figment of their imagination and I will refer it to my lawyers and they will hear from my lawyer. The Nation stands by the story, the editors said yesterday. The bromide of the letter is published on page one.

Obasanjo also spoke on the security situation in the country, saying:

“Well, I don’t think anybody needs to be an oracle to make any pronouncement on security situation. It must be the concern of all of us. Abdulmuttalab attacks U.S. in Court; calls US ‘a cancer’

DETROIT — THE trial of a 24 year old Nigerian, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, accused of trying to blow up a Detroit bound flight on Christmas Day in 2009 commenced yesterday on a dramatic note as a defiant Abdulmutallab shouted “Sheik Anwar is alive! We will wipe out the US … we will defend Muhammad!” and called the United States a “cancer” just before jury selection began in his trial.

Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, whose attempted bombing led to a further tightening of U.S. aviation security, also blurted out “Anwar is alive” – an apparent reference to al Qaeda cleric Anwar al-Awlaki who was linked to the defendant and killed by a U.S. drone attack in Yemen last week.

Abdulmutallab, is charged with attempting to detonate explosives sewn into his underpants as Northwest Flight 253 approached Detroit from Amsterdam. The device malfunctioned and burned Abdulmutallab, who was then overpowered by other passengers. He faces life in prison if convicted.

After his outburst, US District Judge Nancy Edmunds urged Abdulmutallab to change out of his prison-issued T-shirt into something that would make him more presentable to potential jurors.

The accused terrorist said he wanted to wear his shirt and Yemeni belt with a dagger, but Edmunds said she would not allow a dagger in her courtroom. He was taken out of court to change and came back wearing a very long shirt that went to his ankles with a black jacket over it and skullcap.

In a court appearance last month, Abdulmutallab repeatedly disrupted court proceedings yelling phrases including “Osama is alive,” in reference to slain al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, and propping his feet on the defense table.

Abdulmutallab, who has no formal legal training, has decided to act as his own attorney in defending against charges that could lead to a life sentence. He has indicated that he wants to address the jury directly, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The federal trial in Detroit, which is expected to last several weeks, began with jury selection Tuesday morning. A few of the prospective jurors were excused after questioning, including a former Detroit cop who said he probably would have difficulty being fair and a saleswoman who said her opinion is that the defendant is guilty.

“He tried to kill 300 innocent people,” the potential juror said, according to the Detroit Free Press. “I just feel he’s very guilty.”

Abdulmutallab, a fluent English speaker who has said he wants to represent himself at the trial, was dressed in an oversized white T_shirt and sat quietly at his defense table as court was called to order.

When the court reconvened a few minutes later, Abdulmutallab was dressed in a black jacket with thin pinstripes over a tan_colored robe and baggy pants. He also was wearing a black skull cap.

Awlaki, a U.S-born Muslim cleric of Yemeni descent, was identified by U.S. intelligence as “chief of external operations” for al Qaeda’s branch in Yemen.

Yemen-based Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula claimed responsibility for the botched airliner attack. The attempted bombing was also praised by Osama bin Laden in 2010, months before he was killed in a U.S. commando raid in Pakistan.

Last month, Abdulmutallab muttered “Osama’s alive” to spectators as he was brought in for a hearing. He also mumbled “jihad” when the judge used the phrase “al Qaeda” as she read the charges against him.

Appointment of jurors

The first potential juror, a former Detroit police officer, was quickly dismissed. When Edmunds asked the second, a secretary in the auto industry, if she thought she could withhold judgment unless the government established Abdulmutallab’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt, she said, “I don’t think so.

“He tried to kill 300 innocent people … I feel he’s very guilty.”

Edmunds said final jury selection -12 jurors and four alternates – would take place Thursday afternoon. By midday, nine women and two men had made the preliminary grade and four had been excused. The judge, the attorneys – and at one point, Abdulmutallab himself – quizzed most of the potential jurors on the answer they gave to one question on the preliminary questionnaire: “If you are selected to serve as a juror on the case, would you be concerned about reactions to the verdict by anyone?”

Abdulmutallab asked one juror if she agreed that an angry reaction could be triggered by a not guilty verdict as well as a guilty verdict. She agreed, and neither side dismissed her from the pool.

700 Nigerians in Thai prisons, others dead

Calabar—Bishop Frank Owali of the World Overseer of Hebron-Harvest International Ministry, with headquarters in Bangkok, Thailand, has raised alarm over alleged hostile treatment and harassment of Nigerians by the authorities of Thailand.

The cleric, who fled the country, alleged that at the time of his departure no fewer than 700 Nigerians have been arrested and clamped into detention in various towns in and around Bangkok. He said there were no effort by officials of Nigerian Embassy in the country to wade in the matter.

Owali said following insecurity, unprovoked harassment, sustained assault, arrest and extortion of money from Nigerians by Thai security officials, several Nigerians had decided to go underground.

He said: The whereabouts of about five Nigerians pastors, including the clerics in charge of The Throne of Grace Church, New Life International Ministry, and of one of my pastors are unknown.” He alleged that they were among those penciled down by the Thai police for arrest or extra-judicially execution.

Bishop Owali said that the Thailand legal system was so draconian that it did not give room for suspects to defend themselves, as many Nigerians were said to have been in prison custody for several years without appearing in court for trial.

SOS to Jonathan

He appealed to President Goodluck Jonathan and the Nigerian Minister for Foreign Affairs to intervene in the matter to stop further unlawful killing and incarceration of Nigerians in Thailand, stressing that several Nigerian business enterprises and churches had been shut down by the Thai police.

Lamenting their plights, he regretted that since the arrival of the Nigerian Ambassador to Thailand in Bangkok, Mr. Umaru Sulaiman, the envoy had never visited Nigerians imprisoned without trial. He said the Nigerian community in Bangkok was rebuffed by the envoy when they asked him to appeal to Thai authorities to allow one Mr. Obi Peter, who was arrested and detained on trump up charges, to have access to medical care, as the inmate’s health going bad.

Mr. Peter, said to be a former President of the Nigerian Community in Thailand, reportedly died in prison custody due to lack of medical treatment, and a peaceful protest by Nigerians at the embassy led to the arrest and detention of some of them.

The death of Mr. Peter, Mr. Obi Parker, Mr. Henry Ogbimi and other Nigerians in prison custody was said to be the cause of the peaceful protest. He said they were accused by the Nigerians embassy of breaching the peace of Thailand, leading to the arrest and detention of many of them.

1.2m beggars roaming Zamfara streets –Gov Yari

Governor Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar of Zamfara State, has disclosed that no fewer than 1.2 million beggars (Almajiris) are roaming the streets of the state. The governor who was speaking to newsmen on monday as part of the celebrations of Nigeria at 51, Zamfara at 15 and Sharia at 12 on Monday in Gusau, said, “we have a long way to go to put things on the right path.”

Governor Yari who promised to modernise the sharia legal system practised in the state, confirmed that in the next six days there may be amputation of two persons sentenced by the sharia court in the state.

According to him, the issue of street begging was something to be worried about as presently there are 1.2m beggars (Almajiris) roaming the streets of Zamfara State.
He assured that very soon he would assist them (Almajiris) in having western education, while calling on wealthy individuals and organizations to assist as it has to be a collective responsibility.
He maintained that very soon, government would arrest the situation (streets begging), adding that it was not an easy task.

On the situation of the state since he came in as the Governor of the state, barely four months, Governor Yari revealed that he met about 480 uncompleted projects with N42 billion debts in the state.
He explained that a committee was set up to verify abandoned and uncompleted projects, which as of the time he was speaking to newsmen in the state, he had paid N15.2 billion to genuine contractors.

Catholic priest kidnapped in Edo

BENIN—THE Catholic community in Edo State was, Monday, thrown into confusion as Rev. Father Sylvester Chukwura, a priest at St Bernard’s Catholic Church, Eguaholo, Orhionmwon Local Government Area, was abducted by 10 gunmen.

According to two officials of the parish, Rev. Fr. Chukwura was abducted from his residence at the parish by the gunmen.

Vanguard learnt that the gunmen entered the Rev. Father’s house about 1am after they had broken the main gate.

The church officials said despite the Rev. Father’s shouts for help, no one came to his rescue.

It was gathered that following the news of the kidnap, Archbishop of Benin Catholic Archdiocese, Archbishop Augustine Akubeze, was said to have called an emergency meeting of the Curia (Diocese kitchen cabinet).

When contacted, Vicar-General of Benin Diocese, Fr. Augustine Ehigie and the acting Police Public Relations Officer, Ejiroro Awara, confirmed the kidnap.

Police spokesman said the Police were investigating the incident and making effort to secure the release of Rev. Fr. Chukwura.

Normally, I wouldn't react to stories about myself in public, I have my reasons, but I would talk about this briefly. I know David Mark, he is the senate president. But personally, I do not know David Mark and I can say this anywhere, anytime. Why I am actually reacting to this tale is for two reasons. It's a delicate story and second, I wouldn't want my success, my hard work, and my struggle to be attached to someone I don't know. I have never had anything to do with Senator David Mark. People just wake up and make up stories. The range rover I drive is my hard work, my struggle and my sweat.

Breaking News!!!: Helicopter Crash, British Woman Killed

A British woman has been killed when a helicopter crashed into the East River off Manhattan, say Sky sources.

She was one of five people - four passengers and a pilot - on board the aircraft when it came down.

At least three of the four passengers are believed to be British.

According to NYPD, among the survivors two female passengers are in critical condition and two males are in stable condition.

A man who witnessed the crash, Dan Sweeney, told the TV station the helicopter was headed for a nearby heliport when it crashed into the river near 34th Street, just south of the United Nations building.

Weather conditions were clear with a light wind at the time of the crash.

A spokesman for the New York Fire Department said: "We got the call at 3.22pm for us to respond to a helicopter crash.

"We did, and four people were pulled from out of the water."

He said two of the women were in critical condition after being rescued - one had suffered a cardiac arrest and the other had suffered a respiratory arrest.

"They were both taken to Bellevue Hospital."

The injured British man was reportedly taken to NYU Hospital.

A Foreign and Commonwealth Office spokesman said: "We are urgently investigating reports."

‘Ruggedman Stole Shoe Designs’, ‘I Did Not’ – Rapper Insists

A few weeks ago, we reported that Nigerian controversial rapper Michael Stephen better known as Ruggedman had re-packaged his 20th September Wear (or T.S.W) with an array of shoes and accessories. Well, there might just be some more controversy for the rapper as allegations of design theft have been thrown at him.

The hullabaloo all started on the micro-blogging site Twitter on Friday, September 21, 2011 as a New York based Nigerian lady with the Twitter handle @KingAqua05 accused Ruggedman of stealing an upcoming designer, Natischa Harvey’s shoe designs. @KingAqua05 went on to explain that Ruggedy’s newest collection was jacked from Harvey’s 2010 collection called ‘Fever Shoes by Natischa Harvey’.

@KingAqua05′s tweets read: ‘WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW ruggedman STOLE his ENTIRE shoe collection from Fevershoes…WOW’. ‘WOW @Ruggedybaba you no try at all o. You STOLE your ENTIRE shoe collection from Natischa Harvey’s Fever Shoes… WOW really tho????’

She continued ‘I know Fever shoe are not super popular, but still come on! anh anh. He wasn’t even subtle about it’. ‘He didn’t even change the colour and tweak the design a little’.

Within minutes Ruggedman responded to her tweets: ‘I tot to jst ignore u bt decided to speak to u a bit let u know dat cos u av mouth, doesn’t mean u speak all d time’. ‘pple like u r so quick to jump at a chance to run someone down with the negativity, u fail to reason 1st b4 acting. I know ur type’. ‘I only got one word for you ‘customising’. Try n figure d rest out for urself cos i cnt tell u ma trade secret’.

Investigations made by our reporters show that Ruggedman’s collection strikes a serious resemblance to Natischa Harvey’s 2010 collection. Harvey’s official website www.fevershoes.com showcases a vast collection (which were released in 2010) of the same kind of shoes Ruggedman released a few weeks ago.

However, Ruggedman still insists his designs are not stolen. ‘They were customized for me; I’ve been working with someone outside Nigeria. Those designs are from somewhere else. I’m allowed to customize with my name’, Ruggedy told Nigerian Entertainment Today during a telephone conversation.

Drama as SSS rescues kidnapped women

Crime or criminality is nothing new the world over. Criminals perpetrate their dastardly acts in varying shapes and intensity. It is also a matter of fact that security agencies have been doing their best to curb the menace of criminals in society. Criminals are not tired of coming out with fresh modus of operation. In Nigeria, criminals operate in such guises as pick-pocketing, petty stealing, bag snatching, armed robbery, ritual murder, human trafficking, child abuse, armed militancy and suicide bombing, among several others.
In Imo State, for example, incidents of kidnapping remained a thorn in the flesh of the citizens. The list of kidnap victims is long. Even traditional rulers, medical doctors, high court judges, industrialists and businessmen were not spared from the trauma of being forcefully incarcerated by the hoodlums.
A startling revelation came on the heels of a recent success story told by Imo State Command of the State Security Service, SSS. The security outfit successfully smashed the kidnap gang that has been using Ise Nail Industry as a safe haven for their nefarious act. The factory is allegedly owned by the traditional ruler of Lagwa Autonomous Community in Aboh Mbaise local council area, Eze Cosmas Onyeneke.
The startling aspect of the entire story is not that the kidnappers were nabbed and their victims released unharmed, but the fact that the owner of the premises is a royal father, who equally appreciates the gravity of the offence of harbouring kidnappers in his premises.
Already, two of the five-man dare devil kidnap gang alleged to have been terrorizing the Emekuku-Mbaise axis of Imo State were apprehended in a recent operation carefully crafted and executed by SSS operatives and their two hostages rescued. They were caught in a warehouse where they had hidden the two women they had taken hostage and asked for ransom of over N100 million.
Narrating their ordeal in the hands of their captors, one of the victims from Owerri North (names withheld), a staff of one of the old generation banks, said she was driving home after work, along Egbu Road near Emekuku, when she was overtaken in a commando style and harshly ordered to go to the back seat of her car.


She also recalled that another kidnap victim was equally brought into the same vehicle and the two of them were taken to the undisclosed place until they were rescued by security agents. The hoodlums attacked the second woman along MCC/Uratta Road. Her captors hit her on the head with the butt of their gun before she was also forced into the banker’s car.
One of the suspects, who was shot while trying to escape, denied kidnapping anybody. He blamed the ugly incident on his partner, Emenike Toogu. A petty trader later revealed they are from Osisioma Ngwa in Abia State. He also identified the member of the gang who was shot during the rescue operation as Ndubuisi and his relation.
In the interim, the SSS has commenced serious manhunt for the traditional ruler whose factory premises turned out to be a detention camp for kidnapped citizens. Strong feelers from security circles revealed that the royal father is being sought for with a view to find out his alleged level of involvement in the kidnap saga.
The Imo State Government has also said that it is already thinking of what to do with the royal father. Government’s position was made public by Governor Rochas Okorocha when he addressed a cross-section of Imo people Tuesday, September 27, 2011, at the Concorde Hotel, Owerri.
Reading the riot act, Okorocha reiterated the readiness of his administration to decisively deal with any traditional ruler found to be harbouring armed robbers, kidnappers and social misfits in his domain.
Shocking find
“For now, this administration is thinking of what to do with the traditional ruler in Mbaise, whose factory was harbouring kidnappers. Government will surely deal with him,” Okorocha said. The royal father’s subjects were badly jolted when news of the shocking find hit the entire state.
A villager, who spoke to Vanguard Metro, VM, on strict grounds of anonymity, said that “palpable apprehension enveloped the community as a result of the presence of the fierce- looking security operatives but nobody was molested by the security agents”.
Continuing, the villager said that the actual operation started in the late afternoon of the day and when firing stopped, two kidnappers were captured, while their accomplices scampered into cover.
VM equally gathered that the vigilante group in the community later combed the surrounding bushes, captured another suspect and quickly handed him over to the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Aboh Mbaise Police Division.
When VM later visited the home of the factory owner, his aides who initially preferred to antagonize our Correspondent, later claimed that “he (Eze Onyeneke) is not at home and we do not know when he will be back”.

Algerian teen sets himself on fire over failed school exam

ALGIERS (AFP) – An Algerian teenager set himself on fire in front of horrified high school classmates after failing final exams and not being allowed to repeat his senior year, a report said Tuesday.

The 19-year-old was in critical condition at a hospital in the western town of Oran after the incident that unfolded at the Souiyah El Houari high school on Monday, the French-language Quotidien d’Oran reported.

The teen doused himself with gasoline and set himself on fire with a lighter outside the teachers lounge.

As some students and teachers witnessing the incident fainted, the school principal rushed to the boy and tried to put out the flames, burning his hands in the process, the newspaper said.

According to classmates, the teenager was distraught because the school refused a request to repeat his senior year after he failed his final exams, essential to receiving a high school diploma.

'Mr. Jackson died long before he became a patient,' Richelle Cooper testifies during Dr. Conrad Murray's manslaughter trial.

By the time Michael Jackson was delivered by ambulance to the UCLA Medical Center's emergency room, he was already dead. That was the testimony the jury heard Monday (October 3) as the second week of the manslaughter trial of the late pop icon's physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, got under way.

"Mr. Jackson died long before he became a patient," said emergency room doctor Richelle Cooper in testimony continued from Friday.

Other highlights of Monday's testimony:

» Cooper said she actually pronounced Jackson dead twice, once on the phone at 12:57 p.m. on June 25, 2009, when paramedics couldn't revive the "Thriller" singer at his rented home and again at the hospital at 2:26 p.m. after Murray insisted Jackson be transported to UCLA for further treatment.

» When defense attorney J. Michael Flanagan pressed her on whether Murray's failure to disclose that he'd given Jackson the powerful anesthetic propofol had an effect on the care she gave, Cooper said yes. Flanagan then suggested Murray had left that fact out because he believed the propofol had worn off earlier in the day and did not cause Jackson's cardiac arrest.

» Cooper said the amount of propofol Murray told police he'd given Jackson — 25 milligrams — was half of what she would use to sedate patients, saying it would not likely be enough to knock the singer out.

» CNN reported that the defense appears to be trying to establish a timeline that depicts Jackson dead earlier in the day to bolster their claim that he dosed himself with propofol.

» Phone records indicate that Murray was texting and talking on two of his cell phones in the hours and minutes leading up to Jackson's cardiac arrest, during which he was supposed to be tending to the pop star. In the hour before he discovered Jackson in bed unresponsive, records had Murray making calls totaling 46 minutes, one of which came from Bridgette Morgan, who testified Monday that she called Murray a half-hour before Jackson went into cardiac arrest.

» Another ER doctor who worked on Jackson at UCLA, cardiologist Thao Nguyen, said Murray never mentioned propofol to her either as she was working to revive the singer. She added that when she pressed Murray for what time he last gave Jackson sedatives he claimed he didn't know and did not have a watch.

» Houston doctor Joanne Bednarz-Prashad later took the stand to testify that when she spoke with Murray about a patient they shared on the morning of Jackson's death, she was "impressed" that he had no trouble relaying details about that patient's medical history.

Murray has pleaded not guilty to the charge of involuntary manslaughter. He faces four years in prison and the loss of his medical license

Michael Jackson Immortal Album Due November 21

The second posthumous Michael Jackson album is slated to hit stores on November 21. But unlike last year's Michael, which featured unreleased tracks from the late pop icon, Immortal will serve as the soundtrack to the just-launched Cirque du Soleil show of the same name. The album, sorry, "musical tapestry," is entitled Michael Jackson The Immortal World Tour, and it will feature reworked versions of some of Jackson's most beloved hits, mash-ups and never-before-released outtakes of the late King of Pop's tunes.

Among the latter is an alternate take on the Jackson 5 staple "ABC" and a choir-assisted rendition of "They Don't Care About Us."

The visually stunning show — in the tradition of previous Cirque musicals featuring the music of Elvis and the Beatles — kicked off in Montreal on Sunday and is slated to travel throughout North America and the rest of the world. It will hit 60 North American cities before wrapping up in June in Chicago and taking up a residency at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.

Cirque writer/director Jamie King recently told Billboard that the idea was to be as inventive as possible with the MJ arrangements, treating them like Cirque did the "Love" soundtrack to the Beatles show, in which the Fab Four's tunes were reshaped in previously unheard ways to create a seamless mixtape of trippy sounds.

"Definitely all the hits that the fans want to hear are there," King said. " 'Beat It,' 'Thriller,' 'Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' ' — the big, iconic songs are there, with some other songs mixed and matched throughout. There's some younger Michael in there as well, 'Ben,' the Motown stuff. ... It's a mixed bag of tricks in terms of songs. It's a music-driven show, so we're making sure the music is the narrative that drives us and takes us on the journey."

The collection will come in several versions, including a deluxe $50 set that features the CD, a T-shirt and show program. It will feature more than 40 of Jackson's greatest hits. In a statement, Kevin Antunes, musical designer of the Cirque du Soleil show, added, "Michael's legacy as the greatest entertainer of our lifetime is inspiring beyond words. It was clear from the start that Michael's voice and overall musical essence was the sole/soul source of creative energy driving the project. From the studio to the stage, there's an undeniable integrity and resolute truth in Michael's vocal performances that are highlighted in the Immortal arrangements. It was built with love and respect for Michael's music, his family and his millions of fans around the world."

Among the songs included on the deluxe version are: "Working Day and Night," "Ben," "Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground)," "Beat It/ Jam/ State of Shock," "Remember the Time/ Bad," "Man in the Mirror," "Can You Feel It/ Don't Stop Til You Get Enough/ Billie Jean/ Black or White," "Human Nature/ Speechless," "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'," "I'll Be There," "Gone Too Soon" and "Is It Scary/ Thriller/ Ghost/ Somebody's Watching Me/ Threatened."

In other MJ news, in the midst of the manslaughter trial of former Jackson physician Conrad Murray, the Michael Forever tribute concert is slated to take place in Cardiff, Wales, on October 8. The show, hosted by Jamie Foxx, will feature performances from the Black Eyed Peas, , Ne-Yo, Cee Lo Green, Jennifer Hudson, Leona Lewis, Craig David, Pixie Lott, Alexandra Burke, Alien Ant Farm, Motown legend Smokey Robinson and the first live performance by Jackson sibling LaToya in more than 20 years.

The officials of these bodies are meeting soon to deliberate on a report brought against her by an Onitsha based film production outfit, AMACO Investment Limited.
The production outfit reported the actress to the guilds’ heads following what it described as “the unruly behavior of the actress”
“She is always disappearing on set to attend to her personal problems. And when she returns, she would keep everyone waiting for hours before appearing on the set. And never showed any remorse for her actions.
“During the weekends, Uche would abandan set claiming that she was going to keep an appointment with an Embassy. She refuses to be controlled. Stardom has truly entered her head,” an agonized source narrated.
For her alleged misconduct and delay, deadline for the completion of the movie which she started production in September 6, according to our investigations, has been shifted on several occasions. Uche is playing the role of Titi in the yet to be completed movie, and she was paid the sum of N200,000 as her professional fee.
With things going sour between her and AMACO Investment, the later is now seeking a N2 million compensation for her role in delaying the production of the movie.

TUPAC SHAKUR ‘SEX TAPE’ EMERGES 15 YEARS AFTER HIS DEATH

A sex tape has allegedly emerged of late rapper Tupac Shakur, 15 years after his death.
The five minutes of the footage said to be filmed in 1991, reportedly shows the rapper, who died from injuries sustained in a drive-by shooting back in 1996, engaged in a sex act with a female fan.
During the exploit he is apparently seen dancing along to one of his own unreleased tracks.
It was allegedly filmed during a house party and also sees Shakur with a cocktail in one hand and what is thought to be a joint in the other.
At the same time as getting the sexual attention of the woman, Shakur is also engaged in conversation with Money B from rap group Digital Underground.
Source reveals that the person who possesses the tape is planning to release it.
Last September marked the 15 year anniversary of rapper Shakur's death, and the rapper has been the subject of several rumours since.

Chris Brown wins big at BET HIP-HOP Awards as T.I, DMX surprise fans

The BET Hip-Hop Awards show took place at the Atlanta Civic Center on Saturday evening (Ocotber 1) and the network took time to pay homage to legends as well as current big dogs with the annual party.
Ironically, the big winner of the night during the taping was R&B star Chris Brown who obviously isn’t an MC and who also wasn’t physically attendance. Although all the award winners were not announced at the ceremony, Breezy’s blockbuster “Look At Me Now” took home “Best Collaboration,” “Best Club Banger” and “People’s Champ Award.”
Busta Rhymes, who co-stars on the record accepted the honors for Chris and the most nominated man of the night Lil’ Wayne. Weezy also did not make the show.
Both Brown and Bussa Buss flexed their lyrical acumen during several taped rhyme cypher segments, which included MCs such as Machine Gun Kelly, Big K.R.I.T., B.o.B, Tech N9ne, Skillz, 2 Chainz, Blind Fury and The Lady of Rage.
“They say my music’s pop, I call it buying cribs for my mama, shaking hands with Obama,” Bobby Ray rapped.
The two cyper highlights were by rap labels Maybach Music Group and Shady Records. Captained by Eminem, “Shady 2.0″ took the spotlight with Slaughterhouse and Yelawolf.
“I’m not trying to watch the throne, I’m trying to sabotage it,” Joe Budden spit.
Earlier, Rick Ross lead Pill, Stalley, Meek Mill and Wale in treacherous bars as well as live medley that commanded the crowd stand at their feet. Wale commenced the stage performances with “That Way” and then Meek and Ricky Rozay finished with “I’mma Boss.”
A shirtless, jumping Wiz Khalifa did “Taylor Gang,” and Lupe Fiasco brought out Erykah Badu and a live band for “Word I Never Said.”
Big surprises of the night were legends Heavy D and DMX performing unadvertised medleys of their hits. The growling human dog brought out Swizz Beatz for a flurry that consisted of “Get at Me Dog,” “Ruff Ryders Anthem” and Party Up.” The Heavy D set included “We Got Our Thing,” “The Overweight Lover’s In The House” and “Is It Good To You.”
The biggest surprise of the night however was the recently uncaged King of the South,T.I., who performed “F.A.M.E” with Young Jeezy.
The BET Hip Hop Awards air on the network on October 11 at 8 p.m.
