RE: ASUU Strike - FG And NANS Beg ASUU

As we are aware, the nationwide strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) entered day three today, bringing all academic activities on university campuses to a halt.
ASUU embarked on what it called 'an indefinite, total and comprehensive strike' on Monday following the refusal of the Federal Government (FG) to implement the Agreement they had in 2009 even after its two-week warning-strike in September. Now, the Federal Government is pleading with the lecturers to resume dialogue with it and at the same time, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has stepped in between ASUU and the Federal Government. NANS is appealing to both parties to return to the negotiation table in order to find an amicable solution to the industrial dispute, which has kept them off classes. The Education Minister, Prof. Ruqayyatu Rufa'i, is pleading with ASUU 'to understand the situation.' Her words: 'I have pleaded and I am pleading with my brothers and sisters in ASUU, as colleagues, to understand the situation in the interest of all and youths in particular.'

She said ASUU has made its point as everything in the university system has been shut down because of the strike, adding, however, that the inability of the Federal Government to implement the agreement was not deliberate. 'I am still pleading that my brothers and sisters in ASUU should suspend the strike and go back to work and come back to the negotiating table,' she said. The minister noted that the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Chief Anyim Pius Anyim, was willing to take up the issues at a higher level of discussion. 'No government will be deliberately delaying the implementation of an agreement; any responsible government is committed to what it is doing in terms of its plans,' she added. According to Moment,, the ASUU president, Dr. Ukachukwu Awuzie, last night confirmed that the union would not return to work until all the agreements are implemented. The major issues raised by the academic union include improved funding of the university system, the retirement age of professors and the general condition of service.
Ok o! So the best way to tackle this issue is to 'beg'....#issorai!

On a lighter note, someone twitted this pic and I just had to lol....ASUU! This student is also 'begging'...lol
