The highlife singer popularly known as Mr. Fantastik, Sunny Neji, has taken a route different from what obtains among contemporary Nigerian musicians but has arrived with the same result, if not better. Against the norm of going to South Africa to shoot musical videos, Neji went to India and returned with a buoyant video that promises to keep music fans and television buffs glued to their TV sets. The video, Lovey Dovey, featuring a popular Bollywood actress, Devi Dutta, was shot by acclaimed Indian music videos’ director and filmmaker, Sumit Bhardwaj (Bhardwaj Films) in different exotic indoor locations.
Lovey Dovey, featuring emerging vocalist, Jodie, is one of the heartfelt songs on Neji’s latest album, Timeless, which harps on the effect of cyber communication on practical love. The choice of India as the location for the video, Neji says, is that India fascinates him because of its rich cinematic culture and expertise. “More so, I didn’t want to do a run-of-the-mill video that would just make up the numbers. I wanted something that would be the benchmark for musical videos in Nigeria and Africa. I wanted that cinematic expertise that India symbolises because the motion picture industry there is well known for its development in cinema and I think I have it already with Lovey Dovey,” Neji says.
According to Efe Omorogbe of Now Musik, managers of Neji, the video will be released next Friday on urban music channel, Soundcity and entertainment portal, Notjustok.
